Honor, Respect, Remember
Hello my name is Charles Klink Jr, I was the officer hugging a runner, Sammy Sanchez, after he finished the Philadelphia Marathon.
There is a story behind these three pictures. Sammy lost a good friend, Heriberto "Eddie" Ortiz, earlier this year. Eddie Ortiz was a sergeant in the Philadelphia Police Department, was diagnosed with cancer, and lost the battle. Sammy, also a police officer, wanted to do something to remember him by. He decided to run the marathon about four months ago which is an accomplishment for him because Sammy isn't a "runner".
Sammy is one of the kindest most selfless people you'll ever meet. He started a foundation Bowling4iPads, it’s an event that he raises money to buy iPads to donate to schools for kids with Autism, he son is autistic and there are programs on the iPad that helps his son learn better.
Sammy also helps out with the annual Police vs. Fire boxing match, it's a charity event to raise money for fallen police and firefighters' families.
Those three pictures showed the emotion of losing a good friend and completing a marathon for that person. He was happy and relieved that he was able to complete the marathon for Ed in those harsh conditions. It was an emotional day for Sammy.
